Zenji Workshop
The Workshop started with the idea that we needed a central place that could also be used as a workplace, where artisans can meet, share ideas, develop and receive advice and assistance on how to successfully make and market the crafts they produce. A united initiative for the marketing and presentation of these crafts reduces the costs and has a much stronger impact than the presentation of each individual product.
We started the workplace with 6 local women artisans who are being trained in making quality crafts for Western buyers. The workplace operates according to ‘Fair Trade’ principles: the ladies sell the products in the shop and in return receive a sustainable and fair income. Through the operation of the workshop visitors also get an opportunity to meet the makers of the products.
We hope the workshop will be successful and grow into a vibrant place where a mixture of artisans can meet to develop and share ideas. In this way we will contribute to keeping the rich Tanzanian culture and heritage alive (and be proud to be a part of this culture).
